Trimble once again stormed through the Hocking Division on their way to a 13th TVC Championship by outscoring the competition 202-26. The big showdown game with Southern didn't materialize as the 'Cats jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. With the reconfiguring of the league next season Trimble needs to look out for the Wahama White Falcons who will probably finish the regular season in WV with an 8-2 record, and qualify for the post season. Also new to the Hocking mix is Belpre (0-10) and South Gallia (3-7)

On Friday night Tyler Dyla set the single season rushing record by running for 1,727 yards and 15 TDs. This broke the late Jeff McClelland's record from 1978 by 17 yards. Dyla rushed for 321 yards against Miller, 10 yards shy of the single game record, and only the second time in school history a back has gone over 300 yards in a single game. Dyla's career yardage mark is at 3,127 yards, a mere 257 yards from the all-time record. If his senior year output is anything like his last two seasons, he will end his Tomcat career holding the season and career rushing record, the rushing touchdown record, and the overall touchdown record at Trimble. Congratulations to Tyler and to the Tomcat offensive line for such a monumental achievement!

Congratulations to the current Tomcats for winning the 15 league championship and 13th TVC championship since consolidation! I'm sure the 'Cats will be prepared on Friday to avenge that loss. Waterford and Southern are the only two other teams that started league play with a win, so a victory Friday will definitely put us on track for back-to-back TVC-Hocking Championships.

Quick Dyla update. The last time these two teams met, Rusty Martin was on the field for the 'Cats. Fairland has beaten Meigs, and Tolsia (WV), with losses to Portsmouth West and Sheldon Clark (KY). Expect a lot of offense out of this match-up and also expect the Dragons to be on their way, win or lose to a week 10 showdown with Coal Grove for the OVC title. 'Cats need this one for playoff points, because I would venture to guess that Fairland will win at least six games this year, and depending on that last week, seven.

By the way, football is not an individual sport, but through the fourth week of his Junior season, Tyler Dyla is fifth on the all-time career rushing list, and a little over 100 yards from moving up to fourth.

Schedule Update

The Tomcats will be back in action on Tuesday at the Meigs PRACTICE field by their high school, not their game field. The Fairland game gets dropped from the 2010 schedule, and this year's game is switched from a home game to an away match-up.

Practice/Scrimmage

Of course everything that's on here is second hand information. I have my informants out and about and one of them dropped in on the Fairfield Christian scrimmage on Tuesday. For those of you who don't know, Fairfield Christian is a rather new private school in the Lancaster area. The recently started up a football program and have slowly been getting players from Fisher Catholic. The Cats took the varsity half of the scrimmage 4-1. Tyler Dyla was impressive. But the question remains, what can we see from this scrimmage? My answer, a positive outlook going into the jamboree with Athens next Friday night. We have to take this season like all seasons one week at a time, and although we seemed to fair well for this scrimmage, it is safe to say that Fairfield Christian is not Athens, and nowhere near Nelsonville-York.

Updates to the site include more write-ups on the Trimble/Nelsonville-York rivalry (up to 1993 completed). With the pace I have set I should be close to done with them by the actual game.

Remember the Alumni game is August 22 at 8pm, and kick off your training for the 2010 game by running the Dave Davis 5k on September 5th at the Jacksonville Bridge at 10am $20 will let you run, walk, or crawl.
